"I don't recommend this novel"

This is the funniest review of Worlds of Arthur I have yet read.  Enjoy!

  1. I think she just sold me a copy for you, Guy.

  2. Was it the line 'this is the weirdest history book I've come across', Thomas? I might put that on the cover of the paperback edition.

  3. I'm honestly left with no freaking idea what her point is.

  4. To be fair, it is a shit novel.

I may, however, have to have a bit of a word with OUP's US marketing dept about what sort of semi-literate buffoons they're shipping review copies to!

  5. Obviously "I cannot recommend" that website. How on earth can you do a review of a book by reading only the first chapter? Really depressing. As in the case of Thomas, she just sold another copy of your "novel" to me

  6. I'd guess that Oxford sends a set number of copies to the site and the site admins decide who gets review copies. Not to say they shouldn't improve their selection process.

I'm on LibraryThing's Early Reviewer list and I have no idea how they pick who gets a book.

  7. I cannot believe that this lady has the audacity to present her piece as a 'book' review. 'I really tried to give it a chance ....' Indeed you did. All seven pages of chapter one. So to be accurate it is a 'chapter' review.

  8. Thank you for leaving the polite comment on her page, Steve! The previous (rather less polite but not offensive) one got deleted!

  9. Yes it is I LeClerc! It is a shame that the previous message was taken down, I bet it was worth reading.
